The reason the technology matters
Hardware that never comes down has to handle weather that seasonal strands never see. That rules out most of what people picture when they hear Christmas lights. The case for LED is that it runs cool, sips power and has no filament, and all three matter when the thing never comes inside.None of this means you need to understand electronics. It is a reason to want a specific answer about the hardware, instead of a general assurance. The people who can walk you through it are usually the ones who install it carefully.
The half of the system nobody talks about
Each diode lives in a channel, rather than clipped along an edge. The channel is the reason the system looks like nothing in daylight,

It gets painted to your trim color before it goes up, so the daytime house does not change.
The control question
Each LED in the run is addressed on its own. That is the difference between a single color across the whole house and something that can alternate, chase or fade. The capability sits there unused most of the year, and then it is December.Look at somebody's finished work in the sun, since a dark sky covers a multitude of shortcuts.
What else gets installed
Behind the visible run there is wiring, a transformer and a control unit. Wire routing is where careful work shows, because a rushed job leaves it visible. It is a fair question and any installer should answer it without hedging.
The long view
The upside of leaving it up comes with an obligation: the install has to be right. A system put up carefully asks very little of you. A sloppy install becomes visible the moment the lights are off. That is why who installs it is not a detail.
Living outside in the Upstate
Nothing about leaving it up is theoretical once August arrives. Summer heat builds up along a sunlit fascia, and heat is the enemy of anything with a circuit in it. Moisture is the other test. The failure points are almost never the LEDs.
The control nobody mentions
These systems dim, and it changes how the product feels. At full output it is a display. Turned down, it is exterior lighting. Most people settle at a fraction of full output, since restraint is what makes it look considered.
