Is there a difference between architectural lighting and holiday lights?
It is worth asking whether architectural means anything or is just a nicer word for lights. The difference is between an outline and a plan. One treats the house as a shape. The other reads the gables, the columns, the entry and the stone.None of that means you need to know the terms. The useful test is whether the design explains itself. If the answer describes your building, there is a design behind it. If it describes a product, you are talking to a salesperson.
Which features are worth lighting
Every building gives you something to work with. A front gable. A covered entry. A dormer line. A stone or brick face. A deep porch. Those are the anchors, and everything else is there to hold them together.
Why even light is the wrong goal
The instinct is to light more. It is backwards. Buildings look best when some of them stay dark, because contrast is what creates depth. Light everything evenly and the building goes flat.A building lit this way reads as considered rather than decorated, and most

Two versions of the same idea
On a house, architectural lighting is usually about how the front reads from the street. For a business, storefront and facade lighting is doing work a sign cannot. Company colors on a building are readable at distances a sign is not.
Where the LED system fits
A permanent LED system is the same hardware doing both jobs. Set to a warm white, it lights the architecture. Switched to color, it becomes seasonal.
Grazing, washing and uplighting without the jargon
There are three moves worth knowing. Washing means even light across a surface, good for large simple areas. Grazing is light run tight across a face so every bit of texture throws a shadow, which is what you do to stone and brick. Uplight is for columns and trunks.
Warm or cooler on stone and brick
There is more than one white, and the material decides. Warm white suits most residential materials, which is why it is the default for houses. Cooler sharpens a modern facade, and a little goes a long way. Mixing them on one building is the mistake to avoid.
